August 18, 2009, a Tuesday

— Images are Nature's Best semi-finalists, and my Canon EOS 1Ds Mk III arrived
We took it easy this morning. Had my normal breakfast. Got notified that Nature's Best has selected four of my images (see below) to be semi-finalists in the 2009 Windland Smith Rice International Awards. I'm particularly happy that the bison image is one of the semi-finalists because it got panned by the judge at our photography club competition.

I started preparing the images that my stock agent had selected from my previous submission and started a load of laundry.

Had lunch around 1:00 of cold leftover pizza from Saturday, and it was still tasty. Started a second load of laundry.

FedEx delivered my Canon EOS 1Ds Mk III at 1:44. I was like a kid at Christmas because I haven't had a new camera in just over two years. (The last camera I bought was the 1D Mk III in early August 2007, and before that it was the 1Ds Mk II in December 2004.) I bought the used camera on eBay, and the seller described it as being in mint condition with less than 3500 shutter actuations. Let me tell you, the camera looks brand new, and it only had 3490 shutter actuations. I used my 1D Mk III as a reference to set up the custom functions and the My Menu settings. Took the second load of laundry out of the dryer.

Went out to photograph mushrooms in the yard with my new Canon EOS 1Ds Mk III at 3:40. Ahhhh — the Angle Finder C doesn't fit!!! It comes with two adapters, and I only have the Ec-C adaptor that fits the 1Ds Mk II and the 5D Mk II with me. I'll have to get real close to the ground until I can get the Ed-C adapter out of storage when we return to the Denver area.

We left around 6:00 in the Jeep following D&RA in D's truck to take them out to dinner at ...

The Family Restaurant in Wasilla. I had Baked Lasagna and extremely creamy New England Clam Chowder, J had Chicken Fried Steak with a salad, and both D&RA had Eggs Benedict. The food was good, and we had some nice conversation too.

We returned to the RV around 8:00. I downloaded the images I took of the mushrooms, edited them, and processed one for the blog. I burned DVDs of the files I'll send to my stock agent. Updated my photography website equipment page to include the Canon EOS 1Ds Mk III and cleaned up some other content there too.
